Curriculum Highlights
* Language Arts

Developing Reading Readiness
Through an organized, systematic, and direct instruction, students are given tools to unlock the code of our written language. We help children understand the sound/symbol relationship.

Penmanship
As each letter of the alphabet is introduced students are instructed how to properly form the capital and lowercase letters. (The same procedure is used when teaching number recognition).

Literature and Poetry
At McKinney Care Academy our program motivates children by offering them many occasions to communicate in speech and writing by giving them many opportunities to hear meaningful and well-told literature including poetry, fiction and nonfiction.

* Math

Exploring Patterns
Students are encouraged to find patterns in their environment. Using various manipulatives, students are engaged in extending and creating their own patterns.

Number Recognition
Through counting, rhymes and games, students learn to recite numbers aloud. Students combine the recitation of the number sequence with the act of counting objects. Students learn the written form of the numbers, numerical order, counting groups of objects and writing the corresponding number themselves.

Daily Calendar Activities
Through the use of daily calendar, many concepts are learned. For example, days of the week, months of the year, patterns, seasons, alike/different, counting backward, place value, and estimation.

He enjoys his time at the Academy and likes to present new songs, poems, artwork, etc. to us. It is great to see how excited all the students are when their day begins at McKinney Care Academy. Thank you Mrs. McKinney.
